Minister of State for Gender, Peace Mutuuzo has launched 16 days of activism in the fight against gender based domestic violence during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking at the Uganda media center where she launched a campaign dubbed “orange the world fund respond collect and prevent gender based violence”.

This comes after the ministry of gender revealed that 4,442 cases of defilement were reported between months of January to April during the lockdown.

This has been as a result of loss of earnings and jobs that have provoked further harassments and violence in the public.

Moreover financial Independence has also been one of the challenges especially for women have leaned mostly on the men even parents have forced their young girls into early relationships.

Mutuuzo says that the police report reveals that 800 of cases of defilement were reported through a toll free line and this violence has resulted into an increase of teenage pregnancy.
