Police in Kiira region has arrested a 20-year-old woman identified as Naigaga Shakirah on the allegations of trafficking three teenage girls.
The suspect was arrested after a concerned taxi driver, became suspicious after the victims all from Kamuli District revealed that they were heading to Kenya. The driver alerted one of the police officers deployed at Jinja Taxi Park Police Post.
Naigaga was intercepted from Jinja taxi park on Thursday while attempting to transport the victims to Kenya through the Busia border point.
The girls say that each of their parents paid Naigaga 200,000 Shillings, for transport and yellow fever vaccination.
Naigaga who is currently detained at Jinja Central Police Station claims that she was working for an agent in Kenya, whose details she declined to reveal.
The Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson, James Mubi says that Naigaga has also been recruiting girls in Nansana, Wakiso District. He says that they are liaising with their counterparts in Kampala Metropolitan Police Command to establish if there are related charges against Naigaga.
