A 30-year-old woman has taken her own life and her three children in protest against her husband’s decision to marry a second wife in Mutufu town council, Sironko district in eastern Uganda.

The deceased identified as Jesia Cherop is allegedly to have laced food with poison, which she ate together with her three children after her husband identified as Sam Gidudu married a second wife.

It is alleged that after eating the food, Cherop and the children began feeling unwell before eventually losing consciousness.

They were rushed to Mbale regional referral hospital, where Cherop and one of the children passed away shortly after arrival.

Denis Ephiliam Balinwarigha, Sironko resident district commissioner, confirmed the incident, saying that the other two children are still in critical condition at Mbale hospital. Gidudu couldn’t be reached for comment.
