Budget Parliamentary Committee has discovered that the two radio samples available at the ‘factory’ that won bid were imported from China via DHL.
According to the committee, the said factory has no capacity to manufacture or even assemble radios in Uganda.
This visit comes after inquiries by the parliamentary budget committee into the supplementary budget request by government of shillings 353.8 billion Ugandan shillings for the purchase of 9 million radio set receivers presented to it by the state minister for finance David Bahati.
All that was found at the ‘factory’ were transformers.
Committee wonders how the ‘factory’ bypassed all procedures and convinced the Education Ministry to hand them the multi-billion shillings radio sets deal.
