The boy’s dormitories at Kyamate Secondary School in the Ntungamo district where afflicted using petrol, the Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson, Samson Kasasira has revealed.
According to Kasasira, investigators have since recovered an empty jerrycan with residues of petrol behind the school fence following the Sunday night fire.
The fire demolished Nyerere and Mandela dormitories claiming the life of Bonus Ankwatireire, a senior one from Isingiro district, and left three other students including Isaiah Ajjuna, Marvin Nuwenyesiga and Amanya Lisbon nursing injuries.
The two dormitories were a home to about 146 students. The Kyamate Secondary School head teacher, Emmanuel Arinaitwe says they have allowed the deployment of the Uganda Police Force and the Uganda Police Defense Forces
(UPDF) at the school to find those behind the fire.
He says that they have also allowed parents to visit their children and bring them necessities since they lost all their property in the fire.
