Another tragedy has hit the South African music scene, as rapper Costa Titch dies performing on stage.

Costa Tich whose real name is Costa Tsobanoglou aged 27, was performing at the Ultra Music Festival on Saturday in South Africa 23th before he suddenly slumped and died.

Costa, who is also a dancer, was born in Nelspruit and is known for several hits, including Nkalakatha and Activate where by his most successful single, Big Flexa, has received over 45 million views on YouTube, and a remix featuring US artist Akon was recently released.

Videos circulating on social media showed the moment when he fell on stage but quickly regained his footing before fainting shortly after. The cause of his death is currently unknown.

The news of Costa Titch’s death was confirmed by entertainment commentator Phil Mphela on Twitter just before midnight and was followed by a string of sombre reactions from industry colleagues.

Fellow musician Junior Da Rocka and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema are among those to seemingly reference the rapper’s passing.

It should be remembered that in mid-February, popular rapper Kiernan Forbes, also known as AKA, was fatally shot in a Durban restaurant. Musician Rikhado Makhado, known as Riky Rick, was discovered dead from an apparent suicide in February 2022.
