South African-based supermarket, Shoprite has announced it will end its operation in the Ugandan market after 21 years.

In the statement issued on Monday, Shoprite announced that it has also withdrawn from Madagascar Market.

“In line with the group’s non-South Africa review process, our operations in Madagascar and Uganda have been classified as discontinued,” it said in the statement.

Shoprite launched in Uganda in 2000 and Madagascar 2002 where it had 5 stores and 10 respectively
