Born to Ugandan parents, the British actor was awarded for his magnetic portrayal of the late Black Panther leader Fred Hampton
Kaluuya had this to say after his win -“I hope generations after this can see how brilliantly he thought, how brilliantly he spoke and how brilliantly he loved. [Fred] taught me about myself and he made me grow as a man and I appreciate him with all my heart. […] There’s a lot of information about how [Fred] died but I hope people will grow and learn about how incredibly he lived.”
Another Black Panther star John Boyega also won the supporting actor award for his role in the “Small Axe” series of TV movies about life as a Black person in 1970s London.
