The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) has again appointed Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II as its goodwill ambassador for East and Southern Africa.
Kabaka was Re-Appointed due to his continued effort of encouraging people most especially men and youth to test for HIV and to seek treatment if necessary.
This was revealed by the Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga while addressing the press at Bulange-Mengo on 1st October 2020.
“UNAIDS appointed the Kabaka in 2017 as the goodwill ambassador for the fight against HIV/AIDS and I’m glad to announce that it has reappointed him up to 2023, the responsibility the Kabaka has accepted to shoulder,” Mayiga said.

The 2020 Kabaka birthday run was also launched and slated for November 29, 2020, with few runners to be flagged-off by the Kabaka at Mengo.
The run will be under the theme “Men lead the fight against HIV/AIDS,” Mayiga.
“The run was supposed to be held on April 5, 2020, to mark Kabaka’s birthday which is on April 13 but due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was postponed,” Mayiga explained.
The Kingdom sports minister, Henry Ssekabembe Kiberu urged all Ugandans to prepare enough for this event, which will be the kasiki for the World Aids Day commemorated annually on December 1.
