Emmanuel Macron slapped in the face, two people arrested
French President Emmanuel Macron given a day to remember after a slap from man during walkabout in southern France.
A man smacked Emmanuel Macron in the face on Tuesday when the French president approached bystanders during the second stop of his nationwide tour of France.
A widely circulated video clip shows a masked man shouting “Down with Macronia” in French before swinging at the president’s face with his open palm.
He could also be heard shouting “Montjoie Saint Denis”, the battle cry of the French army when the country was still a monarchyMacron played down the incident in an interview with regional newspaper Le Dauphiné Libéré published on Tuesday evening. “Let’s not allow ultraviolent individuals to take control of public debate. They don’t deserve it,” he said
